Well the Admin. said it sure is quiet and I know that this is a mud racing message board, but with 500 views plus in a week like sitandgrin has stated maybe someone may be interested in another topic. If this is not the place just let me know.
Does anyone burn wood for heat? If so what kind of wood furnace or burner do you have.

Thanks for the response bighorse.
I also heat my garage, with duct into the house.
I use a fire Chief Model 700
Have used 10% gas from the 500 gal. LP Tank in the last 3 years.
I cut and split my own wood and will burn almost any kind of wood.
Was just kind of wondering what everybody else was using.

Not building anything but spend a lot of time in the garage. Its 72 degrees in here and just got through sharpening some chains.
I still love 4x4s and check in to see whats going on.
How bout you. Still racing? How you heat your shop, or do you just build them big engines in the front room ;D

I have a KW that was removed from a basement it is over 30 years old and still works great, I had to replace the heat stat that controls the fan, I have only used one 500 gallon tank of LP in the last 3 years I keep the garage at 40 until I need to do the top secret work on the old fords.
RJ again thanks for the work on the flyer's we had a huge turn out and a great time at the payday.
Super bowl party in the wood heated barn (coming up) I will post more when it gets near

84 views and only 3 people heat with wood.
Certainly there are more.
I don't think you need to be a member to post.
I don't care if you use a potbelly flattop or a trash barrel, let me here what you got.

Just kidding, but do you burn wood for heat or just need to make a bon fire from hell?

Chuck, No garage when i'm work on Dexter Drag car this winter i figure i can pile wood around it and light it on fire to stay warm.lol
I do heat my house with wood. I do burn about ten pickup loads a year. Woodstove is a little small for my house trying to heat 3 levels with one burner on the middle level. I've used 80% of my 1000 gal tank in the pass 4 years.
Nice talking with you chuck or typing with you. lol

David I now a guy that heats his home with a pot-belly stove from farm king. The up stairs was always cool so he installed a register in the ceiling of the same room as the stove, and the up stairs is now plenty warm.

As far as the wood goes, one day I observed A logging company removing lumber from a timber not to far from home. I had always wondered what happened with the tree tops, so I asked the farmer that owned the property if there was any wood left over and he said that I was welcome to check it out.
Well when I drove to the back of the field I felt like I hit the jack pot, there was numerous oak tree tops near the edge of the field with many more pushed down in a ravine. Well, I always wanted a bigger winch, so off I went. (10,000 lb winch home made bumper) Burned oak for 2 years.
Another good-lucky find was, while having a taco and a beer at the pub I ask another farmer if he had any downed trees I could cut for fire wood and he stated that he needed a couple fence line cleared do to planting and growing issues. Cut away he stated, So I have been if there are no crops in and its accessible.
In this case, if it were not me it would have been cut down, pushed into a pile and burnt any way.
I'll keep knocking on farmer doors.

I cut and burn a ton of wood. I use it out in my buddies garage. I run two husqvarna's one is the 455 rancher for the small stuff and my 394 with a 36" bar for the big stuff. We have a home brew wood burner. Two 24" diameter 3/4" thick pipes about 40" long stacked on top of each other. The top pipe has 12 - 2" pipes welded end to end with an old furnace fan behind it to blow through. Another fan blows air from behind and in between the pipes. It will get it around 70 in there on the coldest days. No insulation and non sealing doors. Old barn slider doors, with a tin roof. Shop is about 23' x 70. you can see it sitting in front of the old mud truck.

David, I took a brief look into the outside wood burner and although the initial cost will get you, it looks to be quite rewarding in the long run.
jenks21 having the rafters closed off as you do must be a big plus.
Gotta love the homemade stuff that really works.
The saws I use most are a husky 141, stihl 180c, 021 and MS361. I use a 20" on the 361 most of the time and keep a 25" on hand for some bigger stuff. A 36" would come in handy sometimes but I get by with the 25"
